Physiotherapy FAQs: bookings and appointments
These physiotherapy FAQs explain how to arrange an appointment and choose a clinician. If your visit involves funding paperwork, please check the relevant requirements before attending.
How do I book a physiotherapy appointment?
You can book online or call 0418 974 910. If you are unsure which appointment to select, contact our team first. We can help you choose a suitable starting point.
Do I need a referral to see a physiotherapist?
You can book a private physiotherapy appointment without a GP referral. However, a referral or other documents may be needed when using Medicare, DVA or WorkCover funding. See our billing and referral options before booking.
Should I book an initial or follow-up appointment?
Choose an initial appointment if this is your first visit. If you have a new concern, or have not attended for some time, ask our team which appointment to select. Follow-up visits review progress and continue your treatment plan.
Can I choose my physiotherapist?
Yes. The online booking system lets you choose a clinician or view availability across the team. You can also meet our physiotherapists and ask us who may suit your needs. For women’s health, please select the relevant appointment type.
How long will my appointment take?
Appointment length depends on the service and appointment type. Check the details shown when booking, or ask our team before your visit. Let us know about funding paperwork or several concerns so we can help arrange a suitable appointment.
How do I change or cancel my booking?
Please contact our team as soon as you need to change or cancel. Include your name and appointment details. Our team can explain the cancellation policy and help you find another time.
Your first physiotherapy visit
Our physiotherapy FAQs for first visits cover what to bring, what to wear and how assessment works. Tell us about any preferences or support needs before your appointment.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Bring relevant referrals, scan reports, a current medication list and any funding or insurer details. If you plan to use private health cover, bring your membership details too. For exercise or running concerns, your usual shoes can be helpful.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing that lets you move and allows access to the area being assessed. For example, shorts may suit a knee appointment. Your comfort and privacy matter, so tell your physiotherapist if you would prefer another way to assess the area.
What happens during a physiotherapy assessment?
First, we discuss your symptoms, health history, daily activities and goals. Next, we assess relevant movement and function. Your physiotherapist explains the findings and options, then works with you on a plan that may include treatment, exercise and advice.
Do I need an X-ray or scan before seeing a physio?
You do not need to arrange a scan just to book an appointment. However, bring any existing reports that relate to your concern. Your physiotherapist can assess you and discuss whether further medical advice or investigations may be useful.
Can I bring a family member, carer or support person?
Yes. A support person can help you feel comfortable and share relevant information, with your agreement. Please tell us about any communication or access needs before your visit so we can plan your appointment with you.
Will treatment hurt?
Tell your physiotherapist what feels comfortable and what concerns you. We discuss treatment options and adjust the approach to your symptoms and preferences. You can ask questions, decline a treatment or ask to stop at any time.
Fees, cover and referrals
These physiotherapy FAQs outline common payment pathways. Your rebate, approval and any out-of-pocket cost depend on your circumstances, so please confirm arrangements before your visit.
How much does physiotherapy cost?
Fees vary with the service and appointment type. Please ask our team for the current fee before booking, particularly for home visits, hydrotherapy or funded care. Our private appointments page explains how to arrange a visit.
